Strawberry Picking

Because I grew up in the city, I don’t often get the chance to go to places where I can immerse myself with nature. I think this is probably why I enjoy outdoor activities and those that involve appreciating nature’s beauty.

I just love visiting farmhouses and gardens! There’s something magical about seeing how the food that I eat is grown. It also raises awareness and gives me a deeper sense of appreciation for all the hard work that goes behind it.

We went to Ricardoes at Port Macquarie where we picked strawberries. The area is covered so we didn’t have to worry about the weather (it was pretty hot that day). Before proceeding to the plant nursery, we collected our bucket from the cashier. We were told that there aren’t many fruits left and most are still unripe. But we didn’t let that discourage us and we still carried on.

It did require a bit of searching to find some nice, plump and ripe berries but we had fun looking and walking along the aisles. There were 2 available nurseries but 1 was enough for us to fill our bucket.

When we went back to pay for our harvest we learned that this year had been particularly difficult for the growers because of the weather. It’s sad because this is obviously something they have no control over with. I hope next year and the years after will be a lot better so people can continue to enjoy this place.

We purchased strawberry jams and it was divine! It was the best we had and is remarkably different (heaps better) from grocery bought jams. We had an absolutely great time and will recommend it to anyone.
